NGOs from Eastern Europe meet in Chisinau to discuss “Civil society participation in decision-making: dreams, reality and challenges (Chisinau, 12 and 13 June 2014)

A regional strategic planning meeting “Civil society participation in decision-making: dreams, reality and challenges” took place in Chisinau, Moldova, on 12 and 13 June 2014. A total of 43 people participated - NGO representatives from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, representatives of the Civil Society Forum of the EU Eastern Partnership, the European Centre for Non-profit Law, the Association of Local Democracy Agencies and others.

The participants discussed ways of promoting the participation of civil society in democratic decision-making and the assistance which the Council of Europe could provide to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the region. The discussions generated ideas and feedback which are essential for the effective work of the organisation’s Civil Society Division. Informal and constructive, the meeting was also a great stimulus for networking and cooperation among NGOs.
