World Forum for Democracy, Strasbourg, 3-5 November

Strasbourg, 27 October The Conference of INGOs plays an active role in this year's World Forum for Democracy and is sponsoring three labs. The Conference has decided to focus on the following three questions: How can democracy education help democratic structures to evolve instead of simply reproducing the status quo? (lab 2); How can youth foster inclusive democratic structures that integrate minorities in the institutions of governance? (lab 4) and What are the possibilities for young people to take the initiative and influence the policies and the developments of their cities? (lab 11)

17 October: International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

Strasbourg, 20 October The annual event organised by the Conference of INGOs to mark 17 October took place this year in Turin. Closely linked to the high level Conference on the European Social Charter, discussions focused on Article 30 of the Charter “Everyone has the right to protection against poverty and social exclusion”. People living in poverty and NGOs shared their experiences and drew up a strong message which was transmitted to the participants in the high level Conference.

Dialogue Toolkit: University Women of Europe train in Dialogue

Strasbourg, 22 September The University Women of Europe (UWE) annual conference took place in Bucharest, Romania, 4-7 September 2014. The INGO Dialogue Teaser Workshop was part of the plenary programme. UWE is a network of Associations of University Women from nineteen European countries and is a member of the INGO Conference of the Council of Europe and as such has benefitted from preferential treatment to obtain delivery of the Teaser Workshop. INGO events held during the autumn Session of the Parliamentary Assembly

Strasbourg, 11 September 29 September: meeting of the Standing Committee
30 September - 2 October: The Conference of INGOs invited civil society representatives from Belarus and Ukraine to the Council of Europe. The theme of the visit of the Belarus group was “State of democracy, human rights and rule of law in Europe” and the group had meetings with the Secretary General and staff members. The Ukrainian group had meetings with the Secretary General, Human Rights Commissioner, PACE rapporteur on Ukraine and senior officials received first-hand information on Council of Europe action and on-going activities in Ukraine and discussed how to contribute to current and future action.
