Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis paid an official visit to Warsaw from 30 September to 2 October.

During his visit, the Secretary General discussed with the Polish authorities preparations for the Summit of Council of Europe Heads of State and Government, which will be held in Warsaw on 16 and 17 May 2005, under the Polish Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers. Mr Davis met President Aleksander Kwasniewski, Foreign Minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz, and the Polish delegation to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly. He also held a meeting with NGO representatives.

On Saturday 2 October, the Secretary General took part in a conference on “The Idea of Europe: Past, Present, Future”, organised by the Nexus Institute – an academic think-tank carrying out, at the request of the Dutch government, a series of conferences to stimulate dialogue between the world of ideas and the world of decision-makers.
Member countries of the Council of Europe agreed to hold a Summit of Heads of State and Government on 16 and 17 May 2005 in Warsaw, at the invitation of the Polish Government. (more)
