Relations between the Council of Europe and the United Nations go
back over fifty years. These have always been positive, and have
never ceased to improve. Closer cooperation has gathered pace in
recent years.
The co-operation between the Council of Europe and the OSCE concerns
such areas as: democracy, human rights, rule of law, minorities...
A specific field of co-operation is the observation of elections
in which the Council of Europe takes part.
The Council of Europe and the European Union share the same values
and pursue common aims with regard to the protection of democracy,
respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule
of law.
