This exhibition was opened on Tuesday 21 June, in the entrance hall of the Palais.
This exhibition of paintings and sculpture on the theme of peace was organised by the association Accord et Fugue (Chord and Fugue) The works were inspired by religious texts – the Torah, the Bible and the Koran. Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, René van der Linden, President of the Parliamentary Assembly, and pastor Michel Hoeffel, President of Accord et Fugue, took part in the opening ceremony. Opening of the exhibition
In the human world, nothing can be taken for granted, Michel Hoeffel, President of the association Accord et Fugue, told his audience today at the opening of this exhibition inspired by the three great monotheistic religions. The President of the Council of Europe's PACE, René van der Linden, said that at its Warsaw Summit the Council had renewed its commitment to intercultural and interfaith dialogue, with its message of peace, tolerance and mutual respect. Secretary General Terry Davis concluded by stressing that far from being been based on war these three religions all regarded peace as the essential basis to achieving their goals.

The exhibition also coincides with the arrival the French Judeo-Muslim friendship bus at the Council of Europe on Tuesday 21 June at 2.30 pm.

"Portugal – Museums on tour"
At the inauguration of this exhibition on Wednesday 22 June, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly emphasised the importance of art as a means of communication and said that intercultural dialogue was a Council of Europe priority. The Secretary General told his audience that museums were repositories of the collective memory and the vessels of our common cultural heritage. Finally, the Chair of the Committee of Ministers said that the exhibition was a perfect illustration of one of the priorities of the Portuguese chairmanship: cultural heritage and diversity.
