A "Regional Consultation" on Violence against Children in Europe and Central Asia took place in Ljubljana from 5 to 7 July 2005 , at the invitation of the government of Slovenia. It made a contribution to the "Study on Violence against Children" requested by the UN General Assembly in 2001.

Organised by the Council of Europe in partnership with UNICEF, the World Health Organisation, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and some NGOs, this "consultation" brought together children, experts, academics and practitioners, who took stock of the situation of children in an area stretching from the United Kingdom to Uzbekistan. Their aim is to call for action, mobilise opinion and set up a political action plan.
