Maud de Boer-Buquicchio : ''The Civil Code is an instrument of democratisation''

22.10.2004: Thanks to the Civil Code of 1804, often said to be the father of all codes, codification has proved itself to be an instrument of democratisation, the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe said when she opened the Colloquy. She told some 350 eminent representatives of law and politics gathered in the Assembly Chamber of the Palais de l'Europe that the colloquy truly had its place in the sphere of the Council of Europe which for over 50 years had worked towards the creation of an area of freedom, security and justice.
