Informal meeting of the European Ministers responsible for Cultural Affairs:”The new role and new responsibilities of Ministers of Culture in initiating intercultural dialogue, with due regard for cultural diversity” – Strasbourg, 17-18 February 2003 

Council of Europe: Thirty Council of Europe Culture Ministers to discuss their new role in conflict prevention

Strasbourg, 14.02.2003 - Culture ministers from member states, candidates for membership and observer states to the Council of Europe will meet in Strasbourg on 17 and 18 February.

The ministers will debate their new role and responsibilities in fostering intercultural dialogue whilst respecting cultural diversity. Discussions will focus in particular around the role of culture in preventing and overcoming conflicts.

They will examine a draft declaration on intercultural dialogue and conflict prevention which should be adopted during the ministerial meeting in Opatija (Croatia) in October 2003.

Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General Maud de Boer-Buquicchio will open the meeting on Monday 17 February at 11h00.

Three exhibitions have been planned to coincide with the meeting, covering the Ottoman archives (Turkish delegation), Cultural Heritage (Slovak delegation) and intercultural dialogue (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
