Council of Europe colloquy on the holocaust and artistic creation
Strasbourg, 11.10.2002 - A colloquy, organised in Strasbourg on Thursday 17 October will look at the major contemporary art forms used to depict the Holocaust. It is organised jointly by the Council of Europe, the International Task Force for Holocaust Remembrance, and the Fondation pour la mémoire de la Shoah.
Bringing together artists, academic specialists, teachers from various disciplines and representatives of the Ministry of Education, the discussions will take place in four parallel workshops (Rooms 1, 2 ,3 and 9 of the Palais de l’Europe).
Each workshop will report back the next day, during a seminar of Education Ministers from the 48 states that have signed the Cultural Convention. The same day, the ministers will officially launch the “Day of Holocaust Remembrance and Prevention of Crimes against Humanity” in schools.
Secretary General Walter Schwimmer and the French Minister delegate for Schools Xavier Darcos will open the ministerial meeting on Friday 18 October at 10h15. Simone Veil, President of the Fondation pour la mémoire de la Shoah, will speak at 10h30 (Palais de l’Europe, debating chamber).
