Switzerland became the 17th member State of the Council of Europe on 6 May 1963.

Parliamentary Assembly
Switzerland is represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by a delegation of 6 representatives and 6 substitutes, including:

- Liliane MAURY-PASQUIER (SOC), third Vice-Chairperson of the Social, Health and Family Affairs Committee.

Budget
The Council of Europe's ordinary budget for 2009 is € 205 002 000. The contribution of Switzerland is € 4 301 761.97 (i.e. 2.0984 %).
