Portugal became the 19th member State of the Council of Europe on 22 September 1976.

Parliamentary Assembly
Portugal is represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by a delegation of 7 representatives and 7 substitutes, including:

- José MENDES BOTA (EPP/CD), first Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men.
- Maria Manuela de MELO (SOC), first Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Environment Agriculture and Local and Regional Affairs.

Portugal is represented in the Congress by a delegation of 7 representatives and 7 substitutes, including:

Budget
The Council of Europe's ordinary budget for 2009 is € 205 002 000. The contribution of Portugal is € 2 443 623.84 (i.e 1.1920 %).
Human Rights
Ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights on 9 November 1978.

North-South Solidarity Centre
