The Netherlands was one of the ten States which founded the Council of Europe on 5 May 1949.

Parliamentary Assembly
The Netherlands are represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by a delegation of 7 representatives and 7 substitutes, including:
- Marie-Louise BEMELMANS-VIDEC (EPP/CD), head of the delegation.
- Corian JONKER (EPP/CD), Chairperson of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Population.
Congress of Local and Regional Authorities
The Netherlands are represented in the Congress by a delegation of 7 representatives and 7 substitutes, including:
- Onno VAN VELDHUISEN (ILDG), Hoorn, head of the delegation, Vice-President of the Congress and Vice-President of the Chamber of Local Authorities.
Secretariat
Maud de BOER-BUQUICCHIO was re-elected Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General on 26 June 2007.
Budget
The Council of Europe's ordinary budget for 2009 is € 205 002 000. The contribution of the Netherlands is € 7 521 113.37 (i.e. 3.6688 %).

Ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights on 31 August 1954.
