Malta became the 18th member State of the Council of Europe on 29 April 1965.

Parliamentary Assembly
Malta is represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by a delegation of 3 representatives and 3 substitutes, including:

Congress of Local and Regional Authorities
Malta is represented in the Congress by a delegation of 3 representatives and 3 substitutes, including:
- Michael COHEN (SOC), Kalkara, head of the delegation.
- Ian MICALLEF (EPP/CD), Gzira, Vice-President of the Congress and was re-elected President of the Chamber of Local Authorities on 27 May 2008.
Budget
The Council of Europe's ordinary budget for 2009 is € 205 002 000. The contribution of Malta is € 246 002.40 (i.e. 0.1200 %).
Human Rights
Ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights on 23 January 1967.
