Hungary and the Council of Europe

Accession
Hungary became the 24th member State of the Council of Europe on 6 November 1990.

Committee of Ministers
- Péter BALÁZS, Minister for Foreign Affairs
- Judit JÓZSEF, Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe since August 2007.

Parliamentary Assembly
Hungary is represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by a delegation of 7 representatives and 7 substitutes, including:
- Zoltán SZABÓ (SOC), head of the delegation.
- Marton BRAUN (EPP/CD), Chairperson of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Development.

Congress of Local and Regional Authorities
Hungary is represented in the Congress by a delegation of 7 representatives and 7 substitutes, including:
- Istvan BORBELY (EPP/CD), Polgardi, head of the delegation, Vice-President of the Congress and Vice-President of the Chamber of Regions.

Budget
The Council of Europe's ordinary budget for 2009 is € 205 002 000. The contribution of Hungary is € 1 587 535.49 (i.e 0.7744 %).

Human Rights
Ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights on 5 November 1992.
- Judge to the European Court of Human Rights: András SAJÓ.
- Applications allocated to a decision body (*) in 2008 : 425
- Judgments in 2008: 44 of which 43 violations and 1 non-violation
