Estonia and the Council of Europe

Accession
Estonia became the 27th member State of the Council of Europe on 14 May 1993.

Committee of Ministers
- Urmas PAET, Foreign Minister
- Sulev KANNIKE, Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe since March 2007.

Parliamentary Assembly
Estonia is represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by a delegation of 3 representatives and 3 substitutes, including:
- Andres HERKEL (EPP/CD), head of the delegation and Parliamentary Assembly Vice-President.
- Kristiina OJULAND (ALDE), third Vice-Chairperson of the Political Affairs Committee.

Congress of Local and Regional Authorities
Estonia is represented in the Congress by a delegation of 3 representatives and 3 substitutes, including:
- Saima KALEV (NR), Jögeva, head of the delegation.

Budget
The Council of Europe's ordinary budget for 2009 is € 205 002 000. The contribution of Estonia is € 246 002.40 (i.e. 0.1200 %).

Human Rights
Ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights on 16 April 1996.

- Applications allocated to a decision body (*) in 2008 : 169
