Germany became the 14th member State of the Council of Europe on 13 July 1950.

Committee of Ministers

Parliamentary Assembly
The title of Honouree Chairperson was given to the former President Leni FISCHER (EPP/CD). She was the first woman to hold this office from January 1996 to January 1999.
Germany is represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by a delegation of 18 representatives and 18 substitutes, including:
- Joachim HÖRSTER (EPP/CD), head of the delegation and Parliamentary Assembly Vice-President.
- Herta DÄUBLER-GMELIN (SOC), Chairperson of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights
- Doris BARNETT (SOC), second Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Development.
- Detlef DZEMBRITZKI (SOC), first Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Culture, Science and Education.
- Hakki KESKIN (UEL), first Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Population.
Congress of Local and Regional Authorities
Germany is represented in the Congress by a delegation of 18 representatives and 18 substitutes, including:
- Günther KRUG (SOC), Berlin, head of the delegation, Vice-President of the Congress and Vice-President of the Chamber of Regions.
Budget
The Council of Europe's ordinary budget for 2009 is € 205 002 000. The contribution of Germany is € 24 433 778.38 (i.e. 11.9188 %).
Human Rights
Ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights on 5 December 1952.
