30/08/2016 - TALLINN: The Black Nights Film Festival for audiovisual industry professionals announces dates: 17-24 November 2016 - The Co-Production Market calls for projects: 20 carefully selected projects from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, non-EU countries Russia, Georgia and Ukraine, and from focus country Luxembourg, will be presented from 22 to 24 November 2016 to international co-producers and buyers during more than 500 one-to-one meetings of this BE 15th birthday edition. ROTTERDAM : Open call for projects at Cinemart which will be held from 29 January to 1 February 2017 in the framework of the Rotterdam International Film Festival, with the deadline being set at 16 September 2016. BERLIN: The Call for Project Submissions for the 14th Berlinale Co-Production Market (12-14 February 2017), which will take place as part of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival (9-19 February) is open! Experienced producers from around the world are invited to submit their new feature-length fiction projects with a budget range from 1 to 20 million Euros, with at least 30% of financing (or the local production funding) already in place, for which they are seeking international co-production and financing partners. ROME: The Co-Production Market of MIA|Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo, which inherited the best practices and the 11-year experience of New Cinema Network is now opening submissions for its next edition on 21-23 October, 2016. The MIA|Cinema Coproduction Market is honoured to present once again in 2016 the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award: during the event, an International Jury will assign the Award, a cash prize of 20.000 Euros for the development of the best feature film project showcased that fulfills the criteria for collaboration and co-production that inspire Eurimages. Summer Festivals - Prizes and nominations
15/09/2016 – 14 films supported by Eurimages will be screened during the 64th San Sebastian Film Festival from 16 to 24 September 2016, two of which are selected in official competition: Nocturama by Bertrand Bonello, a co-production between France and Germany, and the Swedish film Jätten (The Giant) by Johannes Nyholm, co-produced with Denmark. Several films which were selected at the Cannes Film Festival will be screened in the framework of the Pearls section: the film Zoology (RU, FR, DE) by Ivan Tverdovsky is among the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera selection and the Baltic co-production Teesklejad (Pretenders) (EE, LT, LV) by Vallo Toomla will be screened in the framework of the New Directors section, just like the film Park by Sofia Exarchou, winner of the Eurimages Co-production Development Award. The President and Deputy Executive Director of Eurimages will represent the Eurimages Fund at the San Sebastian Festival whilst Sergio Garcia de Leaniz, Project Manager, will participate in the industry’s activities.
12/09/2016 –The 73rd Venice Festival came to a close last Saturday with the Silver Lion for Best Director awarded to the director Andrei Konchalovsky for the German-Russian co-production supported by Eurimages, Rai (Paradise), also rewarded by two collateral awards: the Segnalazione Cinema for UNICEF 2016 and the Padre Nazareno Taddei Prize.
The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) awarded its prize to the film Une Vie by Stéphane Brizé, a French-Belgian co-production supported by the Eurimages Fund selected in the official competition of the Festival..
Several prizes from the Venice Days section were also awarded to films supported by Eurimages: the Europa Cinemas Label and the Prize for Best First Film for Sami Blood (SE, DK, NO) by Amanda Kernell, the Prize for Best European Film for the co-production entitled Quit Staring At My Plate (HR, DK) by Hana Jusic and finally the Queer Lion for the film Heartstone (IS, DK) by Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson. 22/08/2016 - During the closing ceremony of the 69th edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival which took place on Saturday 20 August, the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Feature Film was awarded to the film Album by Mehmet Can Mertoglu (TR, FR, RO), a co-production supported by Eurimages between Turkey, France and Romania, which was also rewarded with the Cineuropa and CICAE prizes. The co-production Dogs by Bogdan Mirica (RO, FR, BG) won the Special Jury Mention as well as the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Actor for Gheorghe Visu. The film Godless by Ralitza Petrova (BG, FR, DK), already rewarded in Locarno, was given the Special Jury Prize as well as the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Actress awarded to Irena Ivanova.
The Eurimages Co-production Development Award worth 20000 euros, awarded in the framework of the CineLink Co-production Market was awarded to the project God exists, her name is Petrunija which will be directed by Teona S Mitevska and produced by the company Sisters and Brother Mitevski from the “The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”.
Finally, the “Post Republic Award” awarded in the framework of the Work-in-Progres initiative was awarded to a film having received Eurimages co-production support: Touch me not by Adina Pintilie.

16/08/2016 - The 69th Locarno Film Festival came to a close on Saturday 13 August, with the Pardo d’Oro (Golden Leopard) Prize awarded to the film Godless by Ralitza Petrova (Bulgaria,Denmark,France).
The Prize for Best Actress was awarded to Irena Ivanova for Godless.
And the Special Jury Prize was awarded to the film Scarred Hearts by Radu Jude (Romania,Germany).
Eurimages Lab Project Award
30/08/2016 –The second EURIMAGES LAB PROJECT AWARD presented at the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund as part of its New Nordic Films’ works-in-progress held on 24 and 25 August 2016 went to the Icelandic project The wind blew on directed by Katrín Ólafsdóttir and produced by Katrín Ólafsdóttir and Katie Nicoll. The jury consisting of the Norwegian director Bent Hamer, the Eurimages Dutch representative Dorien van de Pas and Heidi Zwicker, programmer for the Sundance Film Festival, was “struck by the beauty of the images and the whole cinematic approach. The concept of the film creates an emotional, which reaches out directly to us, the viewers. The jury respects the Commitment of this filmmaker to the strong vision and the Independent way of developing the project”. See the press-release and the Festival website.
The third and fourth editions of this award will be respectively hosted by the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and the Festival des Arcs. Please note that in order to be eligible, projects must be mainly produced in a Eurimages member state, be shortlisted at one of the above four events and show international co-operation between at least two countries.
The first EURIMAGES LAB PROJECT (more details under Promotion/Prizes) presented at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival as part of its “Works in Progress” event went to the film Perseverance (Vztrajanje) by Miha Knific, a co-production between Slovenia, Croatia, Italy and Serbia. The jury consisting of Karin Schockweiler (Eurimages Luxembourg representative), Kim Yutani (Sundance IFF) and Meinolf Zurhorst (ARTE/ZDF) was "moved by this poetic film that evokes the basic conditions of mankind". It decided to give the Eurimages Lab Project Award @ KVIFF amounting to €50,000 to this film "for its visually striking and sensory jouney through the secrets, memories, and imagination of the human race". This jury also decided to give the Works in Progress Award in a total value of €100,000 to the film entitled Requiem for Mrs. J (RS, BG, MK) by Bojan Vuletić, supported by Eurimages. 28/06/2016 – At its 143rd meeting held from 20 to 24 June 2016 in Amsterdam, the Board of Management of the Council of Europe's Eurimages Fund agreed to support 27 fiction and 2 documentary feature film projects.
5 films supported by Eurimages rewarded at the Cannes Film Festival!
23/05/2016 – The Jury of the 69th edition of the Cannes Film Festival awarded the Best Directing prize to Cristian Mungiu for Bacalaureat (Graduation), a co-production between Romania, Belgium and France.
The Un Certain Regard Special Prize was awarded to the animation film The Red Turtle by Michael Du Dok De Wit, a co-production between France and Belgium.
The Critics Jury presented the FIPRESCI Award to Toni Erdmann by Maren Ade, a co-production between Germany and Austria in Official Competition and the FIPRESCI Award to Caini (Dogs) by Bogdan Mirica, a co-production between Romania, France and Bulgaria in Un Certain Regard.
Albüm, by Mertoglu Mehmet Can, a co-production between Turkey, France and Romania, was presented the Visionary Award of the Critics Week.
In the Director’s Fortnight section, Wolf And Sheep by Sadat Shahrbanoo, a co-production between Denmark, France and Sweden won the Art Cinema Award.

19/04/2016 –The 2016 Audentia Award for best female director was presented to Anca Damian (The Magic Mountain) during the closing ceremony of the 35th Istanbul Film Festival Eurimages. The award, a cash prize of 30 000 euros, has been instigated by Eurimages alongside a raft of other measures to promote greater gender equality in the European film industry. (Press release)
01/04/2016 - Gaetano Adinolfi, aka « Nino », passed away on Tuesday 29 March. Former Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, he was also the founding President of the Eurimages Fund. The Board of Management and the Eurimages Secretariat wish to pay tribute to this great founding personality of the Fund, salute the memory of a lighthearted and committed man, and share the grief of his family, relatives and friends.
A couple of days earlier, it was with a great shock and sadness that we learnt about the early departure of Toine Berbers, Dutch representative to the Eurimages Board of Management from 2001 to 2009 and Vice-Chair in 2005 and 2006. We remember Toine not only as a wise, kind and profoundly humane person but also as a most efficient and committed colleague. Toine will be sorely missed by all of us but our memories of his warmth and smile will remain forever.

22/02/2016 – The 66th Berlinale edition came to a close on Saturday evening with the Silver Bear for Best Actress awarded to Trine Dyrholm for her interpretation in the co-production The Commune (DK, SE, NL) by Thomas Vinterberg, supported by Eurimages. The film Les premiers, les derniers (FR, BE) by Bouli Lanners, also supported by Eurimages, was awarded the 2016 Panorama Prize and the Label Europa Cinemas. See the full list of award winners. Moreover, the second Eurimages Co-production Development Award was given in the framework of the Berlinale Co-production Market to an animation film project entitled Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman directed by Pierre Földes which will be produced by the company Cinéma Defacto in co-operation with the Hungarian company Proton Cinema. The jury composed of Katriel Schory (Israel Film Fund), Ada Solomon (HiFilm Productions in Romania) and Pablo Pérez de Lema Sáenz de Viguera (Spanish Eurimages representative) also decided to award a Special Mention to two other projects: Memories from the Cell by Alvaro Brechner produced by Tornasol (ES) and The Little Comrade by Moonika Siimets, produced by the company Amrion (EE). Eurimages in CineMart, Rotterdam
04/02/2016 –The first Eurimages Co-production Development Award of 2016 was awarded yesterday during the close of the 33rd edition of the CineMart co-production market organised in the framework of Rotterdam’s International Film Festival (27/01-07/02/2016). This prize of 20 000 euros was given to the project entitled Berlin Alexanderplatz which will be directed by Burhan Qurbani (DE) and produced by the German company Sommerhaus Filmproduktion. The Jury composed of Annamaria Lodato (ARTE), Fabien Westerhoff (FFWD) and Dorien van de Pas (Representative of the Netherlands within the Eurimages Board of Management) was seduced by this project which gives us a new and relevant view on a classic piece (see press release).
Armenia joins Eurimages
28/01/2016 – The Partial Agreement of the Council of Europe Eurimages is pleased to welcome a new member state, Armenia, as of 1st January 2016.
As a result, co-production projects involving a co-producer from Armenia can be submitted to Eurimages for examination at the forthcoming meetings.
As Armenia does not have access to the support mechanisms of the CREATIVE EUROPE MEDIA Programme, distributors from Armenia can apply for support. In the same manner, exhibitors from Armenia will be eligible for the Eurimages programme of support for exhibition. Press release
05/01/2016 - It is with a profound sense of shock that we have learned of the death of Artan Minarolli, Albanian representative at Eurimages Board of Management. In Artan, Eurimages has lost not only a valued filmmaker but also a great friend, appreciated by all for his kindness and warmth.
We grieve the loss of Artan with the Albanian film community, the memory of Artan will remain with us through his films and his unforgettable smile.
