Welcome
Welcome to the European Language Portfolio

The European Language Portfolio was developed and piloted by the Language Policy Division of the Council of Europe, Strasbourg, from 1998 until 2000. It was launched on a pan-European level during the European Year of Languages as a tool to support the development of plurilingualism and pluriculturalism.

Meetings of the Validation Committee in 2010:

21st meeting – 14-16 June
22nd meeting – 22- 24 November

As announced at the 8th International Seminar on the ELP (Graz, 29 September-1 October 2009) the validation of ELP models will be replaced by a new registration procedure in 2011. The final deadline for submitting new ELP models for validation under the present procedure is 30 April 2010. The final versions of models that have been submitted previously and are being revised in order to meet the conditions for accreditation set by the Validation Committee may be submitted up until 30 October 2010.

8th International Seminar on the European Language Portfolio
European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML), Graz, 29 September – 1 October 2009

The ELP was launched on a European scale during the European Year of Languages 2001 and has since proved to be of major interest in the member states; 103 models have been accredited by the European Language Portfolio Validation Committee (ED-EVC). The 8th seminar provided an opportunity for taking stock of the achievements of the ELP project to date, assessing the ELP’s impact in Council of Europe member states, presenting new supports for ELP developers and users, and discussing future strategy.

The report by the Seminar Co-ordinator, David Little, is available in English here.
