Pompidou Group - Combating drug abuse and drug trafficking

Sintra Ministerial Conference (2000)

On 12-13 October 2000, Ministers and government representatives of the Pompidou Group’s Member States and representatives of the European Commission met in Sintra, Portugal.

The Conference dealt with the general theme: “Risk reduction as a component of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to drug abuse problems”.

It also adopted a report on the modernisation of the Pompidou Group, including a revision of its core tasks and activities and modifications to its management structure and way of working.
The XII Ministerial Conference of the Group marked the end of the Portuguese presidency (1997-2000) and the beginning of the Irish presidency for the period 2000-2003.
